Shank PAX2009 Demo Playthrough

I’ve been asked a few times if I could post a full playthrough of the PAX2009 demo, so here it is! Please keep in mind that this is a very early build and preview of the game, so we would love your feedback.

very cool 2d game, some aspects of the game are very similar to the devil may cry ( combos) and princ of the persia ( movment, climb, run..) it would be cool if you add option for instant kill form behind (pop). that will deffinitly be cool…

animation look very cool and smoot what is biggggggggg plus and i like the music.

I am aboslutely so excited for y9ur game ever since i saw it at pax and also follow you on twitter. I know this is a lot to ask but i’m begging you to make a change in your game. have a larger variety of normal characters for us to kill. It gets old having to kill the same charcater (brock and dante etc) over and over. PLZ make more charcacters to ensure it does not feel repetive.

this looks amazing! probably one of the best 2d looking game i have seen in a very long time trust me when i say that. Love the combos and the movement. This is some A+ game here. By the way will they be a mac version or its strictly for pc and xbox?

    (Never played, only watched video)
I’d recommend that the guns and chainsaw be more devastating so the moves will be more rewarding much like the chainsaw in Gears of War. I found that the moves seemed repetitive after a few minutes, but I think this will be remedied by adding more power/devastation to various moves.

Perhaps the team could experiment by including some sort of finishing-type moves so that a skilled player could dispatch enemies in as little as one combo. An example of this is in the 2D fighting game Weaponlord (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaponlord), where a player could deal out a death combo resulting in an instant win.

Kudos on a great looking game, I’ll follow this one for sure.

i found your game through boingboing’s IGF round up, and i must say the visuals are so good it makes me want to stop coding right now. because i’ll never make anything this good. ever. it would be cool if there was some new gameplay, fighters get old and sf2 sets a high bar. shank reminds me of prince of persia.

    cool game :)

I see you used the first boss form Ninja Gaiden II in the demo. Good choice.

Also, epic game all the way around. Hopefully the combos will be introduced to the player a bit more slowly so they get a full feel for each move before being thrust into full combat. I would also like to see the shotgun more often, it seemed like it only showed up in one combo. Amazing artwork though and stealing the best parts from multiple games is generally a good thing when they mesh this nicely.
