Shank Backstory told in Co-op Campaign
So it quietly leaked here and there, but today we officially announced that we included a local co-op campaign to Shank! It was actually a pretty long process for us to make co-op work — we didn’t want to just force a lame multiplayer into the storyline for the feature bullet point.
In around October, the way the decision came was something like this:
1. We think co-op would rock, and everyone is asking for it
2. We don’t want to force it into the mainstory line, as we really designed the camera, the levels, the story, and the bosses to be played by a single person
3. In order for us to do co-op properly, we should really design levels and bosses specifically to be played that way
4. Let’s surprise the fans and create a special co-op campaign! That won’t be hard to do at all! (It was really god damn hard)
So we took the opportunity to tell the backstory, as much of the story was inferred during the singleplayer. Marianne had written all this material on the backgrounds of the characters, and it was a natural fit to not only add gameplay, but to use that opportunity to flesh out the world for the fans.

Awesome! I’ve been following this game’s develpment for what seems like forever! Finally announced the release date, thanks guys! Shank’s gonna be awesome :3 i am SOO getting this for my XBOX! This game looks like it will be cool. The only thing is it also looks like it will be short. :/ I think you guys should offer like new episodes as downloadable content a few months after it’s released. Think of it as like a comic book series or something, with the game engine in place it wouldn’t be that hard, and would make a lot of money if you did it that way. 5 bucks for a new episode, sell a million download and you’re straight. You won’t have any of the original overhead costs to deal with, just story, level design, etc…

Great idea Jay! I totally support it! Also.. I don’t think i can survive waiting for a month… Culd you maybe release a demo on XBLA before releasing the final product?

Been seeing this here and there and glad that they have announced a release date. Looks good and is definitely on my list of XBLA goodies being released here lately. I thought the 120GB drive was going to be enough but looks as if the 250GB is looming on the near horizon.
happy gaming

I wait this game for realy long time.I’m a PC player. When can we
download SHANK demo?

Why no online coop? I think when people asked for it, that’s what they had in mind.
I mean not ta put ya down or anything, it’s just that when people see beatum up and xbla or psn download and coop together, online is sort of a given.
I’m sure the game’s gunna be great, but maybe you could work on a patch after release for online coop?

Looks really awesome.
Gonna play it on PC, too but I really need Online Coop.
Couldn’t you include Steamworks (including Steam Cloud, maybe Steam Stats and Multiplayer matchmaking (usable for coop?)) into the PC version?

The game has come out today and the demo has been downloaded. I love the gameplay but will not be buying this just do to the fact no online co op. That is a must for an arcade game thats made like this. Most of the games out on arcade get hammered without the ability to play with a friend. Great job on the gameplay tho it’s really great! Fun beat the crap out of them style, LOVE IT! The controls are solid too! Easy to get used to.

Id also love if there is add-on content like additional campaigns. This will keep the game from getting dusty, heh.
